Corporate Profile

Formerly known as Enaleni Pharmaceuticals Limited and listed on the JSE Main Board since December 2005, shareholders approved the change of the group name to Cipla Medpro South Africa Limited at the AGM on 24 July 2008.

The name change reflects the group's strong pharmaceutical focus together with subsidiary Cipla Medpro's established and trusted presence within the local healthcare industry and its strong association with Cipla, India's largest pharmaceutical company.

The group's business is governed by a Board comprising 2 executive and 6 non-executive directors, of which 5 are independent. Durban businessman Sibusiso Luthuli has chaired the board since the group's inception in January 2003. Empowerment consortium Sweet Sensations owns an 18,1 % stake in the group and is represented on the board by two non-executive directors.

19 year old Cape Town based Cipla Medpro, the fastest growing local pharmaceutical company, commands a substantial and ever-increasing share of the local medicines market. The company offers a broad range of some of the world's most scientifically advanced medicines and products targeting a number of today's most challenging disease categories including cardiovascular, respiratory, diabetes, oncology, psychiatry, antimalarials and HIV/AIDS.

The Durban-based manufacturing facility, Cipla Medpro Manufacturing has recently undergone a R341 million upgrade to international Pharmaceutical Inspection Co-operation Scheme (PIC/s) standards, making it one of the first in South Africa to boast this accreditation. The facility manufactures select lines of the group's products as well as offering contract manufacturing solutions to local and multinational companies.

The driving ethos behind the group's business model is a belief that affordable healthcare is a right for all South Africans, not a privilege.  To this end, it is firmly committed to providing world class, yet affordable medicines to the private and public sectors.
